well i dont really update this thing very often anymore, unless i update while i am at work. it will be even less now that my son is here and doing well. taking care of a new baby is alot of work.

life is nice though. going pretty good. i cant complain. going to work i miss my son and my wife. i know it will be worse once i get to korea. they will be so far away from me, but thats what letters and poictures are for. and video cameras.

anyways its lunch time so im going to go eat.

well hello to everyone. quick update.

my wife and i are finally into our own place. it was nice of someone let us stay in thier home for two months. it had its ups and downs. the ladies little girls that we babysat miss us alot though. we got a free bedroom set from one of the nco's in my department. alot of stuff has been handed down to us and for that we are greatful. this weekend however, we still spent a good $500 on stuff we needed and now i am broke.

my son, kyle, will be born soon and im excited to see what he looks like. we are still getting stuff for him like the crib and a dresser. its all coming together at the very last minute so its a bit stressful for us. on top of that im teaching her how to drive a stick and just drive all together. shes feeling great and things are nice.

but, today i looked online at my records and i saw that im on assignment to go to Korea! im supposed to report in June 2006. figures too. now that i got things to settle down a bit, things are going to get hard. again. seems like im never going to get a break. it is possible to bring cathy and my son over but it might be expesive on my part since Korea is a hardship tour. translated- no family, overseas, kinda like iraq, but without the getting shot at part.

so this is my life as of today.

its not that ive been lazy, or even that i forgot about this journal. life is just busy, with so mucch on my plate at once its been very stressful on me. but things are slowing down but not for long. soon kyle will be born, and that will start a whole other set of stresses, good and bad. i personally cannot wait till he is born. i want to see what my son will look like.

speaking of which, me and cat registered at target. so buy my son some stuff! you can search under my or her name. Joshua Rodriguez, Catherine Rodriguez, and we are in North Carolina NC

back to buisness. though staying in someone elses house free of rent is nice, it also has its down sides. especially when the owner has two very hyper, yet cute girls. they love my wife and are always wanting her to do something with them. its like i have to fight to spend time with my own wife. but we should be out of there by next month. although our apartment will be empty, kyle will have plenty of stuff. there are a few people who want to give me and cat some fruniture, which is nice, but we still wont have much.

i didnt have to go to LA because of the hurricane. which is nice, i wanted to see the birth of my son. this new hurricane is going to destry another city it looks like and i know gas will rise high once again. so i filled up yesterday. funny how this world works. i think its funny that everyone in this country says god bless america, but if someone blessed something, would they destroy it? i know i wouldnt. makes you think doesnt it? why doenst mexico ever get bad hurricanes? maybe mexico is blessed? j/k

anyway just updateing so that people know im still alive and well. so is my wife, and our baby boy. hes healthy and it looke like she will have an easy delivery.

this weekend will be the best ive had in a long time. and why is that you might ask. we all know that life is hard and it has its moments, good and bad. the weekend is going to bring more good t omy life. im traveling up to new york to pick up my wife and her things and move her down to NC to live with me. its been a long hard battle to get her out here but ive finally become victorious!

because of the hurricane, the 28th CSH and 1/505 PIR 82nd Airborne DIV are on standby orders to go to the disaster area in LA, MS, and AL to help out with whatever. i might be able to go, and i want to. not only to help out but it would be a good experiance in general.

well im back from south carolina. was there for 13 days, for some more training. i got word about 50hrs before i had to go so i didnt get much time to write about it. it was fun though and i learned alot. now i should be getting promoted to SGT. in about 4months or so. i have to take some classes to get my promotion points up.
im very tired from only getting about 5hrs sleep a night, avg. for the last 13 days. i did get a coin from the SGM for helping out a guy who ended up having heart problems. so did another medic that went out there with me.
that is all for now.

ITS A BOY!!! Im having a boy. and the due date has been pushed back from nov 15 to nov 21.

me and my wife are so happy to find out what the baby is.

wed morning i found out at morning pt formation that there were some slots open for PLDC (Primary Leadership Developmental Course) and that if all the packets were put together that the van would leave for Georgia on Sat morn about 4am. so i find out on wed about 1030am that i am one of the few who might get to go. so we scrambled to get as much done on wed as was possiable.

this morning i took a pt test, did 58 push-ups, 58 sit-ups, and 2 mile run in 15m35s. total points = 223 out of 300 possiable points. i could have done better on my run. after completeing the pt test we go to the comapny and get height and weight done. then im off to go take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) which is required before going to any army school. after that its back over to the compay to pick up my packet that has been signed by the company commander. after that i get to eat lunch as it was about that time.

after lunch, i go back over to the comapany to get the stuff that my unit is going to give me and i sign off on that. then i go get all my gear, head over to the conferance room at work to do a checklist layout of everything, ensuring that i do in fact have everything on the packing list. after that we go over to military personell office and get our field meal cards. fill out a 4187 for that and head back over to the comapany to get that signed off by the company commander. after that we go to the seargant major's office to talk to him. he says hell talk to everyone thats going at 1000am at the company. so we go to PTMS to see about confirmation on going and it was a go.

tonight i start packing. tomorrow i go to the company and see what SGM has to say. then hopefully go over to the housing office to get a letter that i need to get my BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) started and take that into military personell office and they can take it to finance and then i will start to see my bah in my pay. that will allow me to bring my wife down here to live with me, after i come back from this course.

i love you cat. thank you for loving me and for being such a patient wife.

well im no longer doing post partum care and taking care of the newborn babies. it was a fun job but ow ive been moved down to podiatry, which is a foot clinic for those who dont know what podiatry is. im going to learn be learning alot of stuff. its cool to learn new things and so far the people are nice and i enjoy it. ill also be working in the cast room casting and splinting peoples broken bones. and thats pretty interesting too.

aside from missing my wife, and issues with finances, im doing pretty good. hopefully all my problems will get fixed and ill be great.

im filling out the paperwork to get a home loan from the dept of agriculture, for rural development. its a good and cheap way of buying a home. ive always wanted my own house and its a good feeling to own a house. the house i looked at is on 3/4 acre of land. 3 bed 1 1/2 bath. its a nice starter home for a new family and it has a huge yard. the best part is driving through the farmland to get to the house. its ver peaceful and relaxing. i hope i can get it.

on wed me and my wife will find out if were having a boy or a girl.

life is ok, excet for a few things that need some fixing but life will always have something wrong with it. its all about how you handle it.

on fri i got out of work about an hour early. so after talking to my wife i decided that i would go see her. my family is very spontaneous. but she didnt know i was comeing. surprises are the best. so i went on mapquest to get directions and to see the estimated time it would take to drive it. i left at 4pm and i arrived in NY at 2am. it was a long drive but well worth it. i love spending time with my wife, even if it was only for two days. i left sun at 4pm and i got back here at 1am. i was able to make up alot of time once i got past baltimore. the highway was empty forever so i was going about 100-110 for like an hr. i also maxed out my car, i want to see when the speed gov would take over and its at 120.

i went to work this morning and because we have so few patients and because i was supposed to shadow my ncoic so that i could take over for her when she goes on leave, but she wasnt there today, so i got sent home. bummer too i could have been in NY another night. but either way it was still nice to see her.

life is ok.

yesterday i went to the u.s. open golf tourniment. i was just one of the 3,000 troops to volunteer our time to helping out. i was assigned to work at one of the concession stands. i made over priced sandwhiches for rich people walkin around with $2000 in thier wallets. it must be nice to just walk around with that much cash.

anyway it was fun, the other soldiers i worked with were from 2/505 82nd airborne division. they were infantry grunts so they of course thought it was cool that i was a medic. those grunts love thier medics. and they should we save thier lives and help them out. it was also nice to have all the free food, ice cream and beer i could possiably consume. i didnt drink that much, partly becuase it was pretty busy. and we were short of people. but then we are soldiers and were used to doing alot with a little.

all in all the experiance was good and the people we worked for were very thankful to have soldiers working for them. because we worked hard and were responsiable. though we did goof around too, you have to laugh, its good for the heart. they also liked hearing about the things weve done and places weve been. and ofcourse they were thankful for us just being in the service.

i didnt get to meet any of the famous golfers, im not much of a golf fan anyway. i just wanted to go just for the experiance. besides if i did get an autograph from a golfer i would just have sold it on ebay.

yes today is the 15th which means payday! i can finally go shopping and get some food. for a min there i thought id have to cash in my change jar which is halfway filled but it has about $50 in it. ill get my first insurance bill for my car insurance due on the first. ill pay that online or over the phone on the 1st that way its not late and i can usr my paycheck from the 1st.

on a side note, even though im active duty in the military, its still not enough money. im at an E-4 pay which is descent but E-4 to E-1 pay is still tech in te poverty bracket. which i think is quite sad considering how hard we work and the fact that if we get deployed our life could be taken. though we do get extra pay during deployments its only about $500 more a month. the best part is that its all tax free. but either way its not enough monye to begin a family.

the reason im getting another job is to help me get an apartment so that i can move my wife from new york to here. and so that i can buy furniture, dishes, a bed, and all the stuff ill need for my child. at the moment we have nothing. so there is alot to get so im going to have to work another job to come up with the extra cash. plus i would also like to modify my car, but first things first.

my wifes visit is over. i take her to the airport in about 5hrs. instead of getting off at 7am im getting off early at 3am. that way i can have some more time with her before she leaves.
the time seemed to go so fast and way too short. i wish that she wa able to live with me but thats not the case, at least for tight now. by august she should be able to move down here.
i loved the time spent with my hunny bunny and all the not so lonely nights like the ones im going to have now. i miss her so much and love her and adore her and she is my everything. i took her to work and shes more popular then i am and i work there. i put her on the doppler and she and i was able to listen to our babyies heart beat which was very special for us. she is due nov 15 and i cant wait for that day to be here.

i love you catherine. <3

i have been married 3 months as of today!

my wife came out to visit me for 10 days. im excited to see her and spend time with her. i love her dearly. things have been rough lately and im sure that as we spend our lives together we will hit some more rought times.

i introduced her to the doctor out here that will deliver our baby. he is a great doctor, and im gladd that he is going to be the babies doctor as well. i asked him personally to be the doc and to see her when she was here visiting me. we had a little problem at first but it got straightened out and now its all good. we had to get her put into the computer system mostly.

this morning i will see the doc again and he will go over all the test results with me and print them out for my wife to take back home for the doctor out there.

i love you catherine rodriguez, and i will do so forever!

my aid bag [May. 5th, 2005|11:47 am]
so i decided i would take pics and share with you all my aid bag that i have. so here it is.

on top is a velcro style tourniquet.

and here inside compartment one you see i have alot of things. to the left of this, not pictured, there are two zippered pouches inwhich i have naproxen, ibuprofen, acetaminophine, amoxicillian, deconomine, bacatracin, chapstick, sunscreen, bug repelant, asherman chest seals, large gauze pads, band-aids, alcohol swabs, batteries and small flashlight, pen light, and a pulse-oximatry meter.
under all the goodies shown is bedadine swabs/bottles to steralize instruments and/or skin for sutures. more guaze rolls, triangle bandages to tie splints down or make a sling for broken arm, glowsticks for the dark.

compartment two has other stuff. mostly IV therapy stuff.

to the left of the IV fluids is another pouch (not pictured) that has hot/cold packs, emergency obsetrics kit, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.
the picture you see is another zippered pouch (compartment 3) that is unzipped and open. it is folded over the pouch with the stuff i stated above.

so there you have it, a combat medics aid bag. and there is still so much more i could fit and need to get, like saline locks, more flushes, various sized syringes, more needles, more bedadine, alcohol swabs, IV tube extinders, and most importantly MORPHINE!!! <-- thats way hard to get hands on.
also i need some more airway management stuff like a larongascope,(aids in intibating a patient) bag valve mask,(provides positive pressure ventilation to ease in administering C.P.R.)combitube, and the other tubes you stick down the throat to the lungs when a person cannot breath. and oxygen mask, tubing and tank. then im about as good as any civillian E.M.T. except without a big truck and gurny. and a $500 expense to pay.
